http://jojo.wikia.com/wiki/Joseph_JoestarPersonality:
Lazy - Joseph is notoriously lazy, doing all he can to avoid having to work hard if he can avoid it. He's even said as much, only training hard for a month to fight the Pillar Men because his own life was on the line, and then promptly dropping his hamon training despite the numerous benefits, including delayed aging and essential superpowers. Even the thought of honoring his dead friend wasn't enough to make him put any effort into continuing his training- he would rather take it easy and live a good life without working hard.
This continues to be evident in part 3, when Joseph- despite genuinely being willing to do anything to save his daughter from certain death- continues to cut corners left and right. He doesn't use his extremely useful stand and many points that it would make things easier, and doesn't even use his own stand enough to really figure out how much it works. It is hinted at many points in the canon that Joseph shouldn't have to break the Polaroid cameras he uses for his stand photography... But he keeps doing it.
It's a shame, too, because Joseph is a nearly unstoppable force when he bothers to apply himself. He's clever, able to use his hamon and stand in all kinds of creative ways when he bothers to apply himself, but it takes extreme situations- and being cut off from other people who could do the job- for him to really even try.
Impulsive - Joseph isn't really known for thinking things through, preferring to run into things without really thinking them through.
In part two he runs off to Mexico to fight Nazis and retrieve his uncle Speedwagon without getting anyone to help him. He goads a majestic Aztec bodybuilder demigod into cursing him with certain death and only asks for ONE MONTH to prepare to fight them. And he marries a woman he's only known for a month... Without telling anyone, an act that leads to him showing up at his own funeral because everyone assumed that he was dead.
In part three he's still as impulsive as ever, for some reason thinking it's a good idea to bring his 17 year old grandson and another seventeen year old boy along on a life-threatening quest to fight the Vampire that stole his grandpa's body. This proves to be a major mistake that ends up costing many of the friends he dragged into this mess their lives. He is decent enough to properly regret this, but the damage is still done. People are dead, and his own grandson is left with mental scarring that impacts all of his future social interactions. Great job, Joseph!
Dishonesty - Joseph is a cheater. A big, fat, disloyal cheater. He cheats in any aspect of life that he feels he can get away with, preferring shortcuts to actual hard work or loyalty.
It is a wonder that this man hasn't been kicked out of every casino he's ever entered. He seems incapable of playing games without cheating. Poker? He's cheating. Casual game of go-fish with his friends? Cheating. He even cheats on video games, when forced to play. He can't be trusted.
And his dishonesty doesn't just apply to games. No, Joseph Joestar has done things much worse that- most notably at least one torrid affair with a young woman who was younger than his own daughter (though in his defense she was totally legal AND totally smoking hot). Said affair took place during a work trip to Japan, and after he left he never contacted the woman again, content to leave the whole thing a secret that his family would never find out about. Too bad for him that the affair produced a son- one that in the main canon he didn't learn about until the boy was sixteen. As I am taking him from midway through the game Eyes of Heaven, however, he recently met his sixteen year old son through time travel shenanigans, and thus knows that as his point in history he has a six year old son out there.
He is likely to look up said son if he ever gets the chance, but will probably do all he can to keep his wife from finding out.
Joseph has a slew of other negative traits as well, including but not limited to: Casual racism (he's holding the fact that his daughter married a Japanese man against the whole country... When he's not boning them), flaunting his wealth (well, he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth), and an oh-so-cocky attitude.
Of course, he does have plenty of positive traits as well, the most important being...
Devotion - He is super devoted to the people he cares the most about. Really, Joseph is quite a devoted family man if you can overlook the way he cheats.
Every adventure he's ever been on has been spurred into action by his desire to protect a loved one- the start of his adventure with the pillar men began because he wanted to save his Uncle Speedwagon from Nazis, and the entirety of his trip to Egypt to fight DIO was soley to save his darling daughter's life.
He's been shown to above all be a doting father. He takes excellent care of his daughter even when she's an adult, and seems pretty devastated to have not learned about Josuke sooner. He can also cook baby food from scratch with just a campfire as his heat source. Yeah, he's devoted to being a father above all else.
He also still dotes on his wife (who he CHEATS ON) and grandson, and has shown himself willing to put more effort than usual into things if it means that he can help his friends. So... That's cool I guess.
Powers and Abilities: Joseph has two superpowers of sorts according to canon; he is naturally skilled at a type of sunshine-breathing based martial arts call "hamon", and he has a stand called "Hermit Purple" that takes the form of vines and allows him to take photos of people he's currently thinking about by smashing a polaroid camera. He vastly under-utilizes both abilies.
He is also in excellent physical condition for his age, and has a sharp mind that is good for coming up with plans on the fly and predicting what people will do. He doesn't really use those abilities either.
He's, uh, good at cheating at poker, then?
Inventory: Joseph will bring with himself the following -
One mechanical left hand, so that he has a left hand.
One walkman containing Weird Al Yankovich's "Eat It" album on cassette tape.
One leather wallet stuffed full of pictures of his family, with 90% of said photos being of his daughter at various ages.
